Panna Cotta

March is Italian Food and Wine Festival at Chale Green Stores, featuring the best Italian delicacies and wines!!  The café will be serving some special Italian favourites.  This simple Italian dessert is a doddle to make, but perfect for entertaining or showing off your own home grown fruits. All ingredients are available in our shop.

4 leaves Costa Quick Dissolving Fine Leaf gelatine

500ml double cream

200ml semi-skimmed milk

175g caster sugar

1 vanilla pod, halved

Seasonal fruit to decorate



Recipe

Method

 

Soak the gelatine leaves in cold water for at least 4-5 minutes.

 

Place the cream, milk, sugar and vanilla seeds and the empty pod casing, in a pan with a heavy base. Slowly bring to a simmer over a medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar has dissolved. Remove from the heat then take the gelatine leaves one by one, squeeze out the excess water and stir into the cream mixture until dissolved.

 

Lightly grease 6 mini pudding moulds or ramekins with a flavorless oil.

Strain the panna cotta through and sieve into a jug, then divide the panna cotta mixture between the moulds. Cool and then chill in the refrigerator for at least 2-3 hours until set.

 

To serve, dip the moulds one at a time into hot water for 10 seconds, then turn out onto plates and decorate with fruit of your choice.
